High School/Middle school drug sweep

The Tyngsborough Police Department, working in conjunction with school officials conducted a lockdown drill and drug sweep of the High School and Middle School this morning. Six (6) K -9 units from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) were used in the search, these K-9 units were comprised of units from the Billerica Police Department, Arlington Police Dept., Lowell Police Dept. and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Department.

While the search was being conducted school officials conducted the lockdown drills as part of a pre-planned event in order to practice their procedures in reacting to a potential serious incident occurring in the school.  School officials sent an email alert to parents notifying them of the lockdown drill and have also sent home a letter with each student explaining what occurred.

The lockdown was completed successfully and the search resulted in a few positive alerts for the presence of drugs however no drugs were found.
