Tyngsborough Severe Weather Update – as of Wednesday Oct 31 at 11:00 AM

During Halloween trick-or-treating on Wednesday, October 31st from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, residents are advised to exercise caution in the event they come across isolated storm damage that has not been removed from the public way.

Trash collection will occur on Thursday, November 1st per the regular schedule.  Recycling on “B” streets will occur per the regular schedule as well.

Leaf collection is scheduled to occur on Friday, November 16th and Friday, November 30th.  Residents may also dispose of woody debris less than 4 inches in diameter by placing it in barrels or leaf bags for collection at these times.

Remaining paving work on Chestnut and Groton Roads is scheduled to occur Thursday, November 1st through Saturday, November 3rd.

National Grid has restored power to the majority of Tyngsborough customers who experienced an outage.  National Grid reports an outage on Dunstable Road at the Chelmsford line affecting approximately 335 customers in Tyngsborough and Chelmsford.  The outage is attributed to an outage in Chelmsford.  There are isolated individual outages on the east and west side of town.  Efforts to restore power to those customers will continue.

Residents are asked to check the condition of electric service to their home.  If there is damage to the meter, meterhead, or wire from the street to your house, you are advised to contact an electrician to make repairs.  Electricians in need of a Town Wiring inspection may fax a completed permit with a copy of their license to 978-649-2320 or bring it to Town Hall.  Residents and electricians with questions may contact the Fire Department business line at 978-649-7671.  The Town will waive re-connection permit fees for damage associated with the storm.

If your power is out and you do not have damage to your meter, meterhead, or the wire from the street to your house, please contact Fire Station #1 at 978-649-7671.

The Board of Selectmen meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 1st has been postponed.

2012 Trick or Treating 6PM-8PM and Safety Tips

Trick or Treating for Tyngsborough will be on Wednesday October 31st from 6PM-8PM

Safety Tips

  • Please use caution if you see post-storm debris that have not been cleared from the public way.
  • Parents should establish a specific route for their children in a known neighborhood.
  • Parents and children should use flashlights and use sidewalks whenever possible.
  • Children should use crosswalks when possible and not cross between parked cars.
  • Motorist should drive slowly and watch for children in the street and on medians and exiting driveways.
  • Parents should have their children wear bright, reflective and flame retardant costumes.
  • Children should travel in groups accompanied by an adult.
  • Children should only go to well lit houses and remain on porches and do not enter the homes.
  • Children should bring all treats home and let a parent inspect them all before eating them.

Motor vehicle accident with injuries

On October 23rd at approximately 9:30pm there was a motor vehicle accident near #90 Coburn Road. The only vehicle involved, a 1995 Chevy Beretta operated by Stephen Murphy, struck a tree and then rolled over.
The Tyngsborough Fire Department had to extricate Murphy from the vehicle. Murphy was transported via Mid-flight to Tufts Medical Center with head injuries and broken bones, his injuries did not appear to be life
threatening. Two passengers, Michael Johnson, 29 yrs old of Lowell, and Jason Kaslowski, 27 yrs old of Lowell, were transported to Lowell General Hospital with apparent non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of an investigation conducted by the responding officers Stephen Murphy, 39 Yrs. of Lowell, is being charged with Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor.

2012 October 19 Mulitple Vehicle Breaks Bowers Ave

On October 17th the Tyngsborough Police Department investigated (7) car breaks that occurred during the previous night on Bowers Avenue.  The breaks are believed to have occurred sometime between 2:00am and 4:30am.  Stolen property included, jewelry, wallet, GPS, IPOD, credit cards, licenses, keys to cars and houses.

Residents are urged to not leave keys or any valuables in their vehicles and to lock them.

2012 October 19 Arrest Drug Offenses

On October 18, 2012 Tyngsborough Police Officers assigned to the Narcotics Division  who have been working closely with Dracut Detectives, made an arrest after an investigation

Officers arrested John C. Brownell 23yrs formerly of Tyngsborough, currently of Brooke Village Road in Nashua NH for Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws, Possession of a Class E Drug, and Outstanding Warrant.  He was held at the Tyngsborough Police Department for arraignment at Lowell District Court Friday October 19, 2012

2012 October 19 Arrest Malicious Destruction

On October 18th Tyngsborough Police were called to The Club on Frost Road for a report of Malicious Destruction of a vehicle.  Officers arrived and spoke to the victim who reported that when he parked his 2007 Red Chevrolet Corvette Convertible two subjects standing in the parking lot smoking made negative comments about the way he parked.  The victim later found the vehicle with damage, and the officers observed scratched paint all around the vehicle and on the hood and found a cigarette that had been apparently extinguished in the soft top.

Officers investigated and observed security camera footage and subsequently arrested Stephen McDonald  23yrs old of 150 Wellman Ave in Chelmsford for Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250.  He was held overnight and will be arraigned at Lowell District Court on 10/19/12.

2012 October 21 Baystate Marathon

On Sunday October 21st from 8:30am to 12:30pm there will be slight delays on and near the Tyngsborough Bridge while the marathon runners are competing.  There will be traffic officers assisting motorists during that time.

Southbound through traffic on Pawtucket Boulevard will be detoured down Sherburne Avenue, local traffic will be allowed for residences and businesses.  Northbound traffic will remain unaffected.

2012 Oct 3 Arrest Domestic A&B

On October 2nd at 5:29pm officers responded to #14 Tyng Road for a report of a male out of control, officers arrived and investigated and subsequently arrested Matthew J. Simard, 21yrs old of #14 Tyng Road Tyngsborough for Assault and Battery Domestic, and Malicious Destruction of Property under $250.  He was held overnight at the police station and transported to Lowell District Court for arraignment.
