Arrest / Officer Injured

On Friday December 21st at 7:20pm Tyngsborough Police Officers responded to the area of
Pawtucket Boulevard after receiving a call from the Lowell Police Department. Lowell Police
reported that a black Chevrolet pick-up truck had been involved in a number of motor
vehicle accidents and had failed to stop.

Tyngsborough Police officers responding to the area spotted this vehicle and attempted to
stop it but the operator refused to stop and continued forward into traffic near the
Tyngsborough bridge. Officers were able to box the vehicle in as it approached heavy traffic
near the bridge. The operator, who was highly intoxicated and combative, was taken from
the vehicle and subsequently taken into custody. The subject continued to be combative
after he was handcuffed and at some point was able to turn and kick one officer twice, once
striking him in the side of his torso and once striking him on his hand (x-rays later revealed
that one of the officer’s fingers was broken). The subject was transported to the station and
during booking kicked another officer in the groin area.

The subject, William McCalley, 26 years old of 35 18th Street in Lowell is charged with;
1) OUI Liquor, 2nd offense
2) Failure to stop for Police
3) Assault & Battery on a police officer (2 counts)
4) Resisting Arrest
5) Marked lanes violation
6) Operating to endanger

A male adult passenger in the vehicle was found curled up on the passengers side floor
highly intoxicated and had blood on his face and mouth. This subject was unable to
communicate with officers and was subsequently transported to Lowell General Hospital by
Trinity Ambulance.
