Joint statement from Police Chief & School Superintendent

May 22, 2018

Good Afternoon,

We want to take this opportunity to inform the public that the Tyngsborough Public Schools and the Tyngsborough Police Department have completed the investigation of yesterday’s non-credible threat at TMS.

At this time, we would like to share the following information:

1 – No threat was ever made against the school.

2 – A social media post misinterpreted and misrepresented comments made during a class discussion and subsequent conversations related to events in Santa Fe, TX.

3 – The students questioned by the TMS administration and the TPD were cooperative, forthcoming, and in no way posed a threat to the school community.

We fundamentally believe in “see something, hear something, say something”, and we are thankful that our students came forth with information once they identified it on social media around 8 p.m. last night.  Immediate action was taken by the Tyngsborough Police Department and we provided as much information as we could at that time, including a determination that our middle school was safe for students today.  Our goal is to provide as much information as possible, all the while respecting student confidentiality.

Please know that the issue is resolved and that our schools are operating in a “business as usual” manner.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Flanagan                         Chief Richard Howe
