Passing of Retired Chief Charles Chronopoulos

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Chief Charles Chronopoulos.  The Chief passed early this morning surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle.  Chief Charles Chronopoulos was the Chief of our agency from 1980 – 1997 and served the town with honor and distinction for 39 years.  The Chief was a man of integrity, whose work ethic was second to none, and a man who loved the Town of Tyngsborough and our Police Department.  For those of us who knew the Chief on a personal level, he was a father figure, and an honest man, with an incredible sense of humor, who was deeply committed to his family, friends and community.   Our community also showed it’s love of the Chief when they dedicated “Chronopoulos Way” to him in 2012.  I was fortunate to call him a friend, and will miss the occasional letter, phone call or visit to the station when he came back to Massachusetts.  As he did with many people he cared about, he treated me like a member of his family, he provided words of advice when appropriate, and words of encouragement when needed.   For those of us whose lives were touched by the Chief, we are better people having known this man, and we will miss him.

My sincere condolences to his loving wife Caroline, and the entire Chronopoulos family.

Rest in Peace Chief.
