Update on earlier information regarding suspicious devices found

On Wednesday March 30th at 3pm the Tyngsborough Fire and Police Department responded to a reported brush fire in the woods behind Locust Ave.  The fire department was able to quickly control and put out the fire in approximately one hour.  It was then reported to the Police Department that it appeared vandalism had caused the fire as there were unknown objects on the high power lines which run over the area of the fire.  National Grid then responded and found several devices on the power lines, one of which had caused the lines to spark, which apparently caused the brush fire below.  A subsequent investigation by the Tyngsborough Police Department, FBI, ATF and State Police has revealed that the devices are incendiary devices which were specifically built to cause burning.  These power lines come from Canada and run through the Northeast part of the United States.  A subsequent search by personnel on the scene and helicopters were used to located any additional devices, none were found.  An investigation is ongoing, if you have any information regarding this crime please call the Tyngsborough Police Department at 978-649-7504, choose #4 or use our anonymous line by choosing #9.  You can also call 1-800-682-9229 to reach the State Fire Marshall’s anonymous Arson Watch reward program, there is a reward of up to $5,000 for any information regarding this crime.
