MassDOT Implements Bridge Weight Restrictions and Truck Detours for the Kendall Road Bridge over Bridge Meadow BrookTomorrow at 7AM

 

Full bridge closure scheduled for May 31 through June 4

 

The MassDOT Highway Division District 4 has announced that truck weight restrictions will be implemented on the Kendall Road Bridge over Bridge Meadow Brook on Route 113 in Tyngsborough.  The weight restrictions are scheduled to begin on Friday, May 18, at 7:00 a.m. and are necessary to prevent further deterioration of bridge supports that are scheduled for repair. 

 

New signs will be installed with the following weight limits below.  Detour signs will also be installed to direct overweight vehicles to alternate routes.

Truck Weight Restrictions

  • 11 Tons for 2 axle vehicles
  • 15 Tons for 3 axle vehicles
  • 24 Tons for 5 axle vehicles 

 

The following detour routes will be in place for overweight trucks beginning on Friday, May 18:

Detour Routes

Route 113 westbound (Kendall Road) for traffic approaching from the east

  • Vehicular traffic will be detoured beginning at the intersection of Kendall Road (Route 113) and Middlesex Road (Route 3A) onto Route 3A (Middlesex Road) southbound.
  • Then right onto Westford Road (heading southwest).
  • Then left onto the ramp to Route 3 northbound at the intersection of Route 3.
  • Then right to the ramp off of Route 3, Exit 35 onto Kendall Road (Route 113).
  • The detour ends after turning right onto Kendall Road (Route 113) westbound.

Route 113 eastbound (Kendall Road) for traffic approaching from the west

  • Vehicular traffic will be detoured beginning at the intersection of Kendall Road (Route 113) eastbound and Bryant Lane onto Bryant Lane heading northeast.
  • Then right on Middlesex Road (Route 3A) southbound.
  • The detour ends at the intersection of Kendall Road (Route 113).

Route 113 westbound (Kendall Road) for traffic approaching from the south

  • Vehicular traffic will be detoured beginning at the intersection of Kendall Road (Route 113) and Middlesex Road (Route 3A) onto Route 3A (Middlesex Road) northbound.
  • Then left onto Locust Avenue (heading southwest).
  • Then right onto Kendall Road (Route 113) westbound where the detour ends.

 

Route 113 westbound (Kendall Road) for traffic approaching from the north

  • Vehicular traffic will be detoured beginning at the intersection of Middlesex Road (Route 3A) southbound and Kendall Road (Route 113) onto Route 3A (Middlesex Road) southbound.
  • Then right onto Westford Road (heading southwest).
  • Then left onto the ramp to Route 3 northbound at the intersection of Route 3.
  • Then right to the ramp off of Route 3, Exit 35 onto Kendall Road (Route 113).
  • The detour ends after turning right onto Kendall Road (Route 113) westbound.

 

Detour routes will apply to all vehicles during the four day shut down from Thursday, May 31 through Sunday, June 3.

 

The bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 6 a.m., on Thursday, May 31, through midnight on Sunday, June 3.  These traffic impacts are necessary to allow crews and contractors to expeditiously and effectively make repairs to the bridge that will allow for the removal of the weight restrictions when completed.

Signage and messaging will be in place to notify truck drivers of these detours. 

MassDOT encourages the public to be mindful of potential traffic impacts.  Those traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution.

The schedule for this work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
